Cinco de Mayo is usually the time to head to your favorite Mexican or taco restaurant and order a bundle of food to celebrate the Battle of Puebla, but with so many restaurants closed for dine-in, Americans may have to celebrate differently this year. Many restaurants have made adjustments to the current pandemic. Restaurants such as Chipotle and On the Border are offering discounts and bundles to celebrate the holiday.

Many Cinco de Mayo deals require delivery apps such as, UberEats, Grubhub and others as many restaurants are still operating with takeout and delivery. Participation in these deals can vary by location. To be safe, check with your closest location before ordering online.

USAToday shared the following deals with their readers:

Chipotle: Chipotle is celebrating Cinco de Mayo by offering free Queso Blanco and extending its free delivery offer through May 10. Customers ordering digitally via the Chipotle app or Chipotle.com can use promo code QUESO55 at checkout to receive free Queso Blanco when it is added to an entrée on May 5.

Moe'sSouthwest Grill: On May 5, Moe's Southwest Grill is offering free delivery on purchases of $10 or more made through the restaurant's app and website.

OnThe Border: Hungry customers can already start ordering On the Border's Cinco de Mayo family meals for $25. The "Cinco in a Bag" includes: Taco Family Meal with seasoned ground beef, a bowl of queso, On the Border swag, and five themed cups. Customers can add alcohol, dessert or more food to their bag.

Taco Bell: Starting today, Taco Bell will be selling DIY taco kits nationwide to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The offer is available via delivery and contactless drive-thrus for a limited time.

TacoCabana: Get margaritas, nachos and soda for a special price this Cinco de Mayo. Taco Cabana is offering a gallon of on-the-rocks lime, strawberry or mango margaritas for $34.99 and Grande Nachos for $9.49. Guests can order by visiting www.olo.tacocabana.com/

Torchy'sTacos: Get discounted family packs and margarita kits this Cinco de Mayo at Torchy's Tacos. Family Packs go from $25, while the Margaritas to-go are $40. Customers can order online by visiting www.torchystacos.com.

Some brands have found a way to celebrate digitally. These festivities include virtual bartending classes, dinners and charity programs. Via Adweek,“Tequila and food brands are leveraging social media to not only teach consumers how to make their own margaritas or Mexican eats at home, but also to support the restaurant and bar industry, which has been devastated by the pandemic.”

Patrón

“Patrón is taking the celebration digital this year, opening a Virtual Bar to raise money directly for bartenders as well as charities that support hospitality workers. On May 5, the tequila brand will host a five-hour session on InstagramLive featuring 20 bartenders across the U.S. crafting easy-to-make margaritas at home.

The brand will compensate the bartenders for their participation, and include a number on screen for viewers to donate to nonprofit partners C.O.R.E. (Children of Restaurant Employees), Another Round and the James Beard Foundation. The brand donated $1 million to those nonprofits at the onset of the Covid-19 outbreak.”

Cholula

“Cholula is also leveraging Instagram Live for the hot sauce brand’s first Tacothon on May 5, which raises money for independent restaurants. Running 7-10 p.m., the event will feature celebrities Milk Bar’s Christina Tosi and Indiana Pacers player Victor Oladipo, Tom Colicchio and Sophia Bush, and chef Aaron Sanchez and former Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade co-hosting one-hour sessions where they will share their secret taco recipes.

The brand will pledge $1 for every viewer who tunes in (up to $100,000) to the Independent Restaurant Coalition, which is working to save local restaurants impacted by Covid-19. Cholula is also supporting local eateries and frontline workers with its ongoing Operation Taco Tuesday initiative, which delivers tacos (with Cholula hot sauce, of course) to medical staff at different hospitals each week.”

Taco Bell

“Taco Bell launched an at-home taco bar and online recipe cards for fans to make their own menu items at home. Specifically, the brand released recipes for the Double Decker Taco and the Wild Strawberry Tequila Sunrise, and is inviting fans to post their dishes on social with the hashtag #TacoBellCreations.”
